What I Stand For

Life in Northern California is beautiful, but we’re paying for it: the financial pain of living here is growing for so many of us and our neighbors.

The system has been designed this way by greedy, large corporations like PG&E and by the corrupt politicians who are funded by them.

We work hard, contribute to our community, and pay our fair share. In return, we hope for an affordable life, the chance to build a better one, a government that will support us when we’re down, and a system that rewards our achievements.

Instead, “making it” feels out of reach — it’s getting harder and harder just to get by. And it’s not because we aren’t working hard enough.

It’s because our system is rigged against us.

The system doesn’t represent us, and it isn’t working for us. It’s not increasing affordability or making it easier to live the American Dream.

The system is designed to help the large corporations make more money. Simply put: these billion- and trillion-dollar corporations pay off our politicians and fund their campaigns. Then, these politicians protect their power, protect their monopolies, and prioritize their profits over our well-being.

These corporations fund Trump’s henchmen who cut corporate taxes and attack the services we rely on — that my family relied on: Medicaid. Food stamps. Disability checks.

And yes, they even fund politicians in our party: the Corporate Democrats whose donors skyrocket prices and don’t pay taxes — the Corporate Democrats who for years have made empty promises to working Americans, only to fail to deliver any change.

These politicians have spent decades doing two things: playing an outdated game of politics that is no longer applicable, and trading our well-being for corporate donations.

It’s time for a change.

The people are calling for it. Across the country, we see a wave of retirements by politicians who hear the calls of their constituents: step aside, and let a new generation of leaders represent us and our interests — not the interests of greedy corporations.

Here in our district, I hear my neighbors calling for the same things. We want leaders that refuse the influence of corporations and special interests. We want leaders that fight PG&E — and aren’t funded by the company that is making life here so expensive. We want change.

Here in California’s 4th Congressional District, we have to make that change ourselves. We don’t have time to wait for it.

We don’t have time to let weak politicians of yesterday pretend they have what it takes to take on Trump’s authoritarianism.

We don’t have time to let PG&E raise rates again and again.

We don’t have time to let insurance companies bury us with unfathomable medical bills.

We don’t have time to stop endless wars that kill countless, innocent people.

We don’t have time to protect the rights of all Americans and residents of this great nation.

We don’t have time to take action against the greed that is choking our planet.

We don’t have time to wait for the generation of yesterday to step aside.

It is our time to make change. It is our time to choose new representation — to elect new leaders with strength, energy, and fresh ideas.

It is our time to build the future we need — the America we believe in.

I am running for Congress to fight for:

Our future.

Our children.

An affordable America.

A fair and equal America.

Strong leadership.

A better Democratic Party.

Representatives that refuse the influence of corporate and special interests.

A political system we believe in.

A nation we can be proud of again.

I’m running for Congress in California’s 4th Congressional District to join the many people fighting for the change we all so deeply crave.

Join us.

Sincerely,

Eric Jones
