Powered by Individual Donors, Eric Jones Outraises Corporate-Backed Mike Thompson in CA-04
Driven by a surge of grassroots support and individual donors fed up with politics as usual, the Eric Jones for Congress campaign has for the second quarter in a row outraised 30-year incumbent Mike Thompson in the race for California’s Fourth Congressional District.
Jones raised more than $2.5 million since entering the race last fall, and enters the next reporting period with $1.8 million cash on hand.
More than 70 percent of the money raised by the Jones campaign last year came from Californians, compared to just 40 percent for Thompson. Overall, in less than four months, Jones raised approximately $2.2 million from individual donors, without taking a single dollar from corporate PACs, federal lobbyists, or Washington special interests.
Thompson, meanwhile, continues to rely on corporate PACs and special interests to finance his campaign. Nearly half of Thompson’s campaign funds came from political action committees. Thompson has raised nearly $1 million from PACs this cycle, underscoring the significant role corporate-backed contributions play in financing his reelection campaign.
Jones has drawn a clear line in the sand, pledging to reject corporate PAC money and put the interests of working families in the 4th District ahead of corporate donors and Washington insiders.
Among the interests contributing to Thompson’s campaign were defense contractors, pharmaceutical companies , PG&E, and major insurance companies.
“Eric Jones is building a people-powered campaign, while Mike Thompson is clinging to power with the help of corporate PACs and out-of-state special interests,” said Jones campaign manager Brian Parvizshahi. “This isn’t complicated, it’s about who your representative works for.”
Jones’s strong fundraising performance underscores growing momentum behind his message of affordability, accountability, and real representation. With more than $2 million cash on hand, the campaign is positioned to dramatically expand voter contact, grassroots organizing, and earned media across California’s Fourth Congressional District, while Thompson doubles down on special-interest dollars.
The Jones campaign will continue focusing on kitchen-table issues facing families across the district, including the rising cost of housing and utilities, corporate accountability, and restoring trust in government.
California’s 4th Congressional District stretches from Napa to Placer County, including Napa, Davis, Woodland, Lincoln, Petaluma, and Marysville.
