Preserving our Environment

Protecting our environment isn’t just about saving the planet — it’s about protecting people. In California, climate change is already here: wildfires are more destructive, evacuations are more frequent, and families are paying the price through higher utility bills, lost homes, and unsafe air.

We need leadership that treats this as both a climate crisis and a public safety crisis.

Holding PG&E Accountable for Wildfires

Californians should not live in fear because a private utility puts profits over safety. PG&E has a documented history of negligence that has contributed to devastating wildfires, loss of life, and community displacement. I support aggressive federal and state oversight, enforceable safety standards, and real penalties when utilities fail to maintain infrastructure. Ratepayers should not be forced to bankroll corporate negligence.

Wildfire Prevention and Resilience

We must invest in proactive wildfire prevention — including undergrounding power lines where feasible, vegetation management, forest restoration, and modern grid technology. Federal resources should prioritize fire-prone regions like Northern California and ensure that rural and working-class communities aren’t left behind.

Evacuation Plans That Put People First

Too many families have been forced to flee with little warning and no clear plan. That’s unacceptable. We need coordinated, well-funded evacuation and emergency response plans that are accessible to seniors, people with disabilities, farmworkers, and non-English-speaking residents. Climate disasters demand preparation, not improvisation.

Clean Energy Without Corporate Abuse

The transition to clean energy must lower costs for families — not become another profit center for monopoly utilities. I support expanding community-based renewable energy, microgrids, and local power resilience so communities can keep the lights on during emergencies without being dependent on a single corporate provider.

Making Big Oil Pay Its Fair Share

Big Oil has known for decades about the damage fossil fuels cause — and spent millions denying it. I support holding oil and gas corporations accountable for their role in the climate crisis, ending fossil fuel subsidies, and reinvesting those funds into clean energy, wildfire mitigation, and climate resilience for impacted communities.

Climate Action as Public Safety and Economic Opportunity

Climate action isn’t a choice between jobs and the environment — it’s how we create good-paying union jobs while protecting our communities. Investments in clean energy, wildfire prevention, and climate resilience will strengthen our economy and safeguard our future.

Protecting our environment means protecting our families, our homes, and our way of life. We don’t have time for half-measures — and we can’t afford leaders who look the other way while corporations put Californians at risk.
